Phoenix Children’s Hospital announces the 2012 Holiday Cards are on sale at all Safeway stores and are available for purchase online at www.pchkidsart.com. This is the 26th Anniversary for the Card Project which is the signature fundraiser for the Hospital’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Retail packages are $10 for fifteen cards and 100% of proceeds support the Center.

The Art Project was created to not only help support the Center, but also involve children in art and craft projects that help cope with stress. Each year, Phoenix Children’s Hospital holds dozens of art workshops enlisting local artists to show patients different forms of art and how to use their imaginations to create artwork that can be used to spread joy and raise much needed funding.

“Each card is a piece of art designed by a patient of the Center and is a reflection of their own personal story,” explains Art Project Manager, Cathy Sherwin, Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation. “In fact, just being involved in the art project provides a much-needed positive emotional outlet for these children.”

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children’s is the largest provider of hematology and oncology care in Arizona. Phoenix Children’s offer state-of-the-art pediatric cancer management to almost half of Arizona’s children diagnosed with malignancies and/or life-threatening hematologic diseases.

“The money raised through the Holiday Art Project dramatically impacts the survival rate for children with cancer,” says Dr. Michael Etzl, Jr., Division Chief of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. “Seventy-five percent of all children with cancer here at Phoenix Children’s are cured of the disease.”
