First Tee of Phoenix’s Anthony Quezada wins 2013 Phoenix City Championship

Anthony Quezada, a longtime member of The First Tee of Phoenix, won the 2013 Phoenix City Championship by an impressive 14 shots. The three day event, March 22-24, was contested on three different City of Phoenix courses – Maryvale, Aguila and Papago.

Quezada, who joined The First Tee of Phoenix in 2004, shot opening rounds of 64 at both Maryvale and Aguila before finishing with a 70 at Papago for a three day total of 198 (18-under). Quezada’s closest competitor was Kenton Steiner who finished the event with a 4-under, 212.

“We are proud to have Anthony as a member of The First Tee of Phoenix,” said Hugh Smith, Executive Director of The First Tee of Phoenix. “Anthony has a bright future in golf having also competed in various other national First Tee events such as The Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach and the Kloenne Cup. We look forward to watching his golf game continue to improve with experience. ”

The First Tee of Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created by The Thunderbirds for the purpose of providing affordable access to golf and golf learning facilities for young people in Maricopa County from all walks of life, particularly those who otherwise might not have an opportunity to play.  The organization offers classes, special monthly family events and tournaments throughout the year. With 11 locations in the Valley – South Mountain, Desert Mirage, Papago, Longbow, Falcon Dunes, Lone Tree and now all City of Phoenix courses – The First Tee of Phoenix programming sites serve as a place for participants to learn valuable life skills and character lessons through creative activities and instructional programs that incorporate the fundamental teachings of golf.
