Summary from the Southwest Seniors Golf Association’s July event:
Mesa Country Club considered one of the finest “parkland” style courses in Arizona lived up to the reputation as a friendly, comfortable and fun venue for the SWSGA. General Manager, Jeff Lessig, Director of Golf, Scott Wright and Assistant Golf Professional, Courtney Watson along with their staff took great care in hosting the July event. The SWSGA is grateful to steadfast sponsor, Van’s Golf (Worldwide Golf Shops), for adding to a wonderful day with drink tickets.

With 19 groups and many new players the competition was great. Low Professional at 67 was Mike Cunning. Low Amateur Gross at 68 was David Moore who also was Low Net at 64. New member professional Paul Falkundiny along with new member Mark Apps and SWSGA veterans Allen Belknap and Wiley Davis captured the team event of one low net and one low gross score of the team at 128. Two amateurs won the Closest-to-the-pin prizes of one dozen Titlest Pro V-1s each; Cary Marmis and Don Silvanic.

Following play a wonderful cookout was enjoyed as scores were posted and everyone was anxious to see a replay of the Open Championship final round and playoff. We are excited to watch as Jerry Smith, Barry Consor and John Hull, all regulars with the SWSGA, will be attempting to qualify and play in the Senior British Open Championship. Our heartfelt congratulations to Jerry Smith on his first Champions Tour victory in the Encompass Championship!

Next up for the SWSGA will be a return to another Arizona icon, Phoenix Country Club in August where the Hole-in-One pot will be near $1,000 and we will have a gross skins carry over! For more information, visit www.swsga.com or call 480.313.7108.
