Briarwood Country Club at Sun City West celebrates 30-year anniversary season

The only private member-owned golf and country club west of I-17 – it has been called “the best kept secret in the Northwest Valley”.  Since the clubhouse was built in 1986, through its 30 years Briarwood Country Club has maintained its reputation of excellence in golf, dining, and numerous social activities.

The Greg Nash parkland style golf course with its beautiful rolling fairways offers a game for any skill level. The 18-hole, par 72 championship course covers 150 acres. There are 5 sets of tees on tree-lined fairways, undulating greens and several water hazards to add some challenge. In his 10 years as Briarwood’s Golf Course Superintendent, Mark Gorga, CGCS, has insured that the course meets the highest standards of fair and challenging conditions.

Director of Golf, Andy Fellows, has been with Briarwood for little over a year.  Andy is a Class A PGA professional whose 25 years of experience includes Greenwich Country Club in Connecticut and Paradise Valley Country Club and Club West Golf Club in Arizona. Andy stated that he has been amazed at the number of groups available for every golf level: 9-hole and 18-hole ladies’ groups, men’s groups, mixers, and ladies’ and mens’ putting organizations.  Open play tee times are available to members via the Pro Shop or from their home computers.

The lure of an efficient staff, an excellent golf course, and superb food have brought a demand for outside tournaments, including such notable groups as AWGA Season Opener, Rotary, Wounded Warriors, Firefighters, and Arizona Men’s Seniors. In 2014 based on practice facility, course, golf shop, and 19th hole amenities, Briarwood was awarded the title of AWGA Host Club of the Year.

Beyond golf, there are nearly 400 social members adding to the Briarwood family and life-long friendships developed. General Manger Debbie Boyer has provided an outstanding, congenial staff who consistently maintain the highest level of standards when it comes to member service, and Executive Chef Alan Thompson takes pride in presenting quality dining from casual to gourmet. He enjoys creating “From the Cork to the Fork,” a popular monthly wine pairing dinner, and also sets the menu for the extensive Sunday Brunch.

Briarwood is available for special outside events, birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings. With an on-site Event Coordinator, Briarwood helps plan every detail for these occasions.

Congratulations, Briarwood Country Club, on 30 years of great golf and camaraderie!
