Ricky Castillo of Yorba Linda, California, won the 18th-annual Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club after making birdie on the second sudden-death playoff hole. He bested Jae Wook Lee of British Columbia and Brock Goyen of Gilbert, Arizona, who all finished regulation play at 5-under-par 208.

Goyen finished tied for first place after round-one action with a tournament-low, 6-under 65. He followed with a 1-over-par 72 to sit in sole possession of third place after the second round, before firing an even-par 71 to finish deadlocked at first place with Castillo and Lee.

In the Girls Division, Allisen Corpuz of Honolulu, Hawaii, won in wire-to-wire fashion after a final-round, 3-over-par 74. Corpuz’ three-round total of 69-72-74—215 gave her a two-shot victory over Quynn Duong of San Jose, California, as well as three shots clear of Ashley Menne of Surprise, Arizona.

At only 14 years old, Menne finished strong among a field made up of some of the best junior golfers on the planet. Given her success at local Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA) tournaments, it’s no wonder. Menne has already won twice this season on the JGAA’s Junior Masters Series, along with a second-place and two third-place finishes.

The Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic features one of the most competitive fields in junior golf with 19 states and four different countries represented. Of the 89 boys and 42 girls who competed, Arizona accounted for 16 of the boys and 10 of the girls.

In addition to Goyen’s T2 finish, results for other local players include: Jake Chanen of Phoenix T7; Trevor Werbylo of Tucson T13; Briggs Duce of Sierra Vista T16; Michael Feagles of Scottsdale T19; Mason Andersen of Chandler T22; Matthew McCarty of Scottsdale T28; Davis Evans of Phoenix T30; Trueman Park of Chandler T30; David Ricciardelli of Scottsdale T33; Chase Wicklund, Jack Snyder, Gavin Cohen, Chip Getz, Tom Katsenes, and Dominic Wade missed the cut.

Final standings for Arizona residents on the girl’s side include: Ashley Menne of Surprise 3rd; Kelly Su of Scottsdale 13th; Monet Flores of Litchfield Park T18; Elizabeth Caldarelli of Scottsdale T18; Emily Mahar of Scottsdale 21st. Isabella Cantwell, Alisa Snyder, Samantha Sandland, Mikayla Fitzpatrick, Jenny Bae, and Haylin Harris missed the cut.

“This is one of the best finishes from a group of our juniors who play in JGAA tournaments,” said Scott McNevin, Executive Director of the JGAA. “It’s clear that our new Junior Master Series is paying off for them. It’s a great opportunity to sharpen their skills against Arizona’s best in preparation for world’s best.”
