Verde River Golf & Social Club, Shea Homes’ newest Trilogy® master-planned resort community, closed its golf course April 28th, 2016 to begin a planned six-month renovation project which will be overseen by PGA TOUR star and former US Ryder Cup Captain Tom Lehman and his Lehman Design Group.

“The golf course has great bones and has been one of the best-kept secrets in Arizona golf for a decade now,” said Lehman. “Its popularity is a testament to the excellent work Ken Kavanaugh did on the original design. With Shea’s commitment to the property, they’ve asked me to take a fresh look at the golf course, and help enhance the playing experience even further. I’m really looking forward to unveiling the new Verde River Golf & Social Club this fall.”

During the closure, Lehman said he and his team – which includes his senior associate Chris Brands – will focus on accentuating the golf course’s strategy and flow, and emphasizing the dramatic sightlines which showcase nearby mountains and the Tonto National Forest. Furthermore, the routing will be modified to add drama and beauty to the opening and finishing holes and to blend more easily with the new Clubhouse location.

Throughout the course, substantial renovations will be made to bunkers and green complexes, and the drainage corridors will be repaired to assist in dealing with the summer monsoons and ensure exceptional playing conditions throughout the year. Finally, Lehman will give special consideration to enhancing shot values throughout the golf course with the addition of both new forward and championship tees that enhance the flexibility of the layout.

While Lehman and his team are at work, award-winning architect Bing Hu of H&S International will begin crafting the club’s breathtaking 30,000-square-foot clubhouse campus, which will form the core of the Verde River private-club experience. The clubhouse campus – which features striking 270-degree views from Weaver’s Needle to the Mazatzals – will include tennis and pickle ball courts, a resort-style swimming pool, poolside dining, Outfitter facilities, a community Market, and more. This is all expected to open in the spring of 2017.
