Scottsdale Golf Group and Antigua team up to host new player development tour in the Valley of the Sun

Orange Tree Golf Course in Scottsdale to open up tournament play on July 6-9

In their ever-continuing efforts to grow the game of golf and provide competitive outlets for the beginner golfer to the players aspiring to tee it up on one of the professional tours around the world, Scottsdale Golf Group and Antigua Sportswear are introducing a new player development tour.

Known as the Antigua Player Development Tour, the summer series will include five, 54-hole events at some of the Valley’s finest golf courses, all of them owned by world renowned golf instructor Shelby Futch and his Scottsdale Golf Group. The 2016 schedule is as follows: Orange Tree Golf Course, a Johnny Bulla Design on July 6-9; Legend Trail Golf Club, a Rees Jones Design on July 13-16; Corte Bella Golf Club, a Greg Nash Design on July 20-23; the Pete Dye-designed Red Mountain Ranch Country Club on July 27-30 and Hillcrest Golf Club, a Greg Nash Design on August 3-6.

Anticipated fields for each event will include @100 male golfers who will play 54 holes in a no cut tournament format. Entry fee for a player at each event will be $600, with nearly 90% of the entry fees being used for the tournament purse. “We felt there was a special need for the talented golfers who want to improve the level of their game in a highly-competitive environment and now, with the assistance of an outstanding golf partner in Antigua, we sincerely feel we will be able to fulfill the needs of many exceptional golfers in the region,” said Shelby Futch, owner of the Scottsdale Golf Group and 2013 Arizona Golf Hall of Fame inductee.

Golfers who sign up for all five of the Antigua Player Development Tour events will receive free golf during certain hours at all of Scottsdale Golf Group’s courses and free range balls at specific times at Orange Tree and Red Mountain Ranch from July 6 – August 6.

The Arizona Golf Association will provide Rules Officials for all five of the Tour events.

“Shelby Futch is one of the most respected names in the world of golf and Antigua is excited to join the Scottsdale Golf Group in this new player development tour. To continue to grow the game of golf and offer players fairways and greens to better their games is essential for the future of the sport,” said Ronald A. McPherson, President & CEO of Antigua.
