Yavapai Indian Foundation hosts inaugural charity golf event at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club

The Yavapai Indian Foundation announced that it will host a charity golf event on Monday, December 12 at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club to further the foundation’s focus of preserving the Yavapai heritage, culture and language.

“We are building on the proud traditions of the Yavapai Nation by calling on the strength of our past and the resolve of the present,” said Owen Doka, assistant general manager of We-Ko-Pa Golf Club and former Tribal Councilmember of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. “The event will leverage our incredible golf facility to raise funds to serve our community from our youngest to oldest tribal members.”

The golf event tees off at 10am on We-Ko-Pa Golf Club’s Saguaro course with various levels of participation available ranging from title sponsorships to single players. It is limited to the first 36 foursomes to register, and will feature a four-person scramble format with breakfast and awards banquet at the club following play. The Saguaro course was recently ranked as the No. 1 public golf course in Arizona by Golfweek magazine, and has received many awards since opening in 2006.

“The golf course is in wonderful shape. It’s just a great way to spend the day surrounded by the Sonoran Desert,” said Matt Barr, general manager of We-Ko-Pa Golf Club. “And the proceeds go to the worthy cause of supporting one of Arizona’s most enduring native cultures.”

Founded in 2008 as a charitable 501c(3) organization, the Yavapai Indian Foundation provides support to the Yavapai Nation and its people. The Foundation’s main focus is to preserve the Yavapai heritage, culture and language through ongoing initiatives: encouraging healthy lifestyles; contributing to educational programs; building an assisted living center for the elderly; a new youth gymnasium and swimming pool; and many other worthy causes.
