Jamey Lewis, of Anthem, Arizona, was elected the 23rd President of the Southwest Professional Golfers’ Association of America by PGA members at the Association’s 59th Annual Meeting. Lewis is the PGA General Manager and Director of Golf at Sun City (Ariz.) Country Club. Prior to being elected Southwest PGA President, Lewis served as Vice President and Secretary of the Section.
Succeeding Lewis as Vice President is Jay Larscheid of Gilbert, AZ., who served the past year as Secretary of the Southwest PGA. Larscheid is the PGA General Manager at Sunland Springs Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.
Mike Scully, of Cave Creek, AZ., was elected to succeed Larscheid as Southwest PGA Secretary. A current member of the Southwest PGA Board of Directors, Scully is Director of Golf at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Greg Leicht, of Gilbert, AZ., who served as the 22nd President of the Southwest PGA since 2014, assumes the role of Southwest PGA Honorary President.
In addition, four new members were elected and sworn in to the Southwest PGA Board of Directors. Serving two-year terms are: Matt Anzalone, of Scottsdale, AZ., the PGA Head Golf Professional at Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ.; Mark Gurnow, of Phoenix, AZ., the PGA General Manager at Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club in Gold Canyon, AZ.; Steve Leonard, of Goodyear, AZ., the PGA General Manager at Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ.; and Travis McCutchan, of Scottsdale, AZ., the PGA Head Golf Professional at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
A native of Oklahoma City, Okla., Southwest PGA President Jamey Lewis earned his membership in the PGA of America in 2000 after serving as an apprentice at Pagosa Springs (Colo.) Golf Club and Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Arizona. During his 12 years at Oakcreek, Lewis served in many capacities including PGA Assistant Golf Professional and ultimately, the PGA Head Golf Professional, a position he held for seven years. He was an integral part of an extensive facility renovation at Oakcreek and was the founder of the Sedona Open, formally a major tournament within the Southwest PGA.
Following his time at Oakcreek Country Club, Lewis served as PGA General Manager at BC Ranch Golf Club in Lake Montezuma, Ariz., and Wickenburg (Ariz.) Country Club before accepting his current position at Sun City Country Club.
Lewis has served in a leadership capacity of the Southwest PGA since being elected to the Board of Directors in 2010, where he also served and chaired numerous committees. He volunteered his time as a District Director for the Southwest PGA Junior Tour for nine years organizing and administering junior events for the Northern District of Arizona.
In 2013 Lewis was elected Secretary of the Southwest PGA by the membership at the Annual Meeting. He was honored in 2012 with the Southwest PGA Bill Strausbaugh Award, presented to PGA Members for distinguished efforts in mentoring other PGA Professionals and supporting them in both employment and community service.
