Reigning NCPGA Professional of the Year takes charge of re-designed gem in Palo Alto (Calif.)

OB Sports Golf Management is proud to announce the appointment of Ed Winiecki as PGA General Manager of Baylands Golf Links in Palo Alto, California. The reigning Northern California Professional Golfers’ Association Professional of the Year, Winiecki will oversee all golf operations, as well as the Baylands Café.

“We really feel like we got one of the best in the business to lead one of the Bay Area’s best golf facilities,” said Phil Green, Chief Operating Officer of OB Sports. “Ed’s award-filled résumé and reputation in the golf industry speak volumes for the quality of person he is, and for the quality of operator we believe Baylands Golf Links deserves.”

Named the 2017 NCPGA Professional of the Year for his work as general manager of the San Jose Country Club, Winiecki was honored for his overall contribution to the game, as well as the respect shown by his colleagues. It is the second time Winiecki has earned Professional of the Year, after the Southern California Professional Golfers’ Association bestowed the same honor on Winiecki in 2010. He is one of only four PGA Professionals in the PGA of America to be awarded the Golf Professional of the year in two different sections. Winiecki is also the only PGA professional to reserve the honor in both the Southern and Northern California Sections.

He earned the SCPGA’s Bill Strausbaugh Award in 2008, the Horton Smith Award (NCPGA Section 2014, SCPGA Section 2008) and SCPGA Assistant Professional of the Year in 2004 and 1995. Winiecki is Certified PGA Professional in all six areas of expertise: General Management, Instruction, Golf Operations, Executive Management, Retail and Ownership & Leasing. Winiecki is also a member of the Club Managers Association of America, National Golf Course Owners Association and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.

“The residents of Palo Alto, and the Bay Area golf community as a whole, are lucky to have Ed leading this new operation,” said Matt Molloy, Senior Vice President of Operations at OB Sports. “I have seen how he connects with each and every guest he meets at Baylands, and how he truly makes them feel at home. Ed is knowledgeable in all facets of golf operations, he has been a part of opening facilities and managing different types of courses as well. I am very excited to see where he will take this great new facility. The service standards and product he will deliver will be unmatched in the area.”

A veteran of more than 30 years in the golf industry, Winiecki lives in San Jose with his wife, Cecily, and children, Nicole and Nate.
