Golfers Choose a Family Business

Coldwater Golf Club now under new ownership

A great birdie opportunity, as well as wonderful off site views.

New Coldwater Golf Club owner Charlie Gibson’s first exposure to the West Valley came in a qualifying round for the Arizona State University Golf Team in the fall of 1971. Playing golf had been a priority for some time up until this point. His commitment to golf led to 4 years at Arizona State University, a 2 time All American and 5 years on the PGA TOUR. This experience served as a perfect entry into the other side of golf – the business side. He served as a general partner and manager of several public facilities, contract management of multiple facilities and owner/operator of three courses, which lead to the purchase of Coldwater Golf Club in Avondale, Arizona.

The move from California to Arizona could only have been possible with the support of his wife Lisa, his son Cole, and long-time friend Pete Mason. Lisa handles the financial and accounting aspects, Cole is the General Manager and Pete is the Director of Golf & Tournament Operations. All four have an equity position in the company and plenty of incentive to make Coldwater a smashing success. Together they have well over 100 years of experience in golf competitions and golf operations.

“We chose Coldwater Golf Club after over five years of shopping the entire Valley for a golf operation that we felt our family could achieve success with, as well as become a part of a community that we have already come to love and appreciate. The golf course has a fantastic layout and the condition at present is already amazing based to a large degree upon the skill and commitment of Tim Gavelek, the longtime Superintendent,” stated Gibson. “We talk daily about improving the course conditions, golf operations and food service. Our goal is to provide a total experience that should always include a fantastic golf course facility, friendly atmosphere and great burgers, dogs, nachos and cold beverages!”

Gibson feels that Coldwater might have been pushed back in the golf market for a variety of reasons in the past. “We are totally committed to making improvements throughout the facility. We have installed two new giant televisions (80 and 90 inch) and have revamped the menu to include more healthy options,” said Gibson. A remodel is currently in process including new granite, paint and flooring.

Located in the West Valley of Phoenix, Coldwater Golf Club offers a championship golf experience, excellent course conditions and outstanding service levels that surpass the expectations of golfers visiting the facility.

The Forrest Richardson designed, par 72, 6758 yard, course features spectacular elevated tee shots, deep swells, and cascading fairways that create rolling terrain and undulating golf holes that break the mold of most West Valley Phoenix golf courses.

Each hole at Coldwater golf club offers its own character, beauty, and challenges that together create a golf experience that will challenge players of all skill levels and inspire golfers to play the course again and again.

The idea of being “All In” as a family makes going to work both exciting and a little scary. The golf market is extremely competitive, and most golf properties have some type of financial backstops. This one is all on them. Seldom will you not find one of them at the property and they are grateful for the support and welcome your comments and input whether you are a local, winter resident or just here for a few days of golf and sun.

“Our passion has always been golf. Coldwater is a golf course owned and operated by golfers! We look forward to sharing our love for this game with you,” stated the new owners. “Our intention is to create a very active players club for events at Coldwater that would even include one or two skins games during the week. And, our hope is that you will consider coming out and being a part of this fun filled atmosphere.”

Commitment to making Coldwater Golf Club one of the best places to play golf in the entire west valley is the new owners’ main goal!

Whether you are looking for the place for your next round with your foursome, a place to host your next charity golf tournament, banquet event or social party, Coldwater Golf Club has everything you need to make the occasion a successful one.
