Former “Big Break” star sets new course record – twice!

SunRidge Canyon Golf Club

Scottsdale’s Benoit Beisser thinks SunRidge Canyon Golf Club is an easy golf course. How else can one explain Beisser shooting a new course record of 65 on Sunday, August 2nd, then returning on Monday, August 3rd to post an even better 63? Beisser, the former Big Break Mesquite star was playing in a two-day Pepsi Tour event at SunRidge Canyon, which he won by eight strokes. The previous course record of 66 was set in November, 1997 by Mike San Filippo, who was playing in a Club Professionals Tournament.
“We don’t see too many rounds in the 60s here at SunRidge Canyon,” said Director of Golf Joel Schafer. “The fact that our previous course record stood for nearly 12 years is pretty telling of how challenging this golf course can be. What Benoit did is simply amazing, it’s Tiger Woods-esque.”
Beisser, 27, competed on The Golf Channel’s Big Break: Mesquite in 2007. He is the brother of Big Break VI and VII star Laura London. He has played in one PGA TOUR event, the 2006 Chrysler Classic of Tucson, where he shot 72, 72 and missed the cut.
SunRidge Canyon Golf Club is a Keith Foster design located on the eastern slope of the McDowell Mountains.
