Ladybug Golf Classic celebrates 25 years!

The 2011 edition of the Ladybug Golf Classic will mark its 25th anniversary…25 years of providing Arizona women’s golf with a classy one day charity event that has supported the Boys and Girls Club of Scottsdale, Stepping Stone Foundation, Juvenile diabetes, Wendy Paine Foundation, Scottsdale Mental Health and Camelback Vista Treatment Center. Young people all over the area have been helped by the generosity of the women playing in this event…the 1st all women’s charity tournament in Arizona. In its 25 year history, more than $500,000 have been donated to organizations.

However this year will not only be the Silver Anniversary of the event…it will be the last time the Ladybug Golf Classic will be held.

It will be held at the Arizona Country Club on Monday, May 2 and feature all the special events that have made it so popular with women through the years. Every participant will receive a unique tee gift to remember their day on the golf course, while supporting a good cause. There will be the usual raffle, auction, awards to those who have participated the most, plus many other special events.

Play will be Foursome Quota and Individual Quota with the winning team receiving the special Ladybug PING golf bag. Entry fee for the event is $185 and entries are limited to the first 128 women (or 32 teams of four players). Continental Breakfast precedes the 7:30 a.m. shotgun start, followed by a delicious lunch.

First venue in 1986 was the Scottsdale Country Club where the beneficiary of the tournament was Scottsdale Mental Health. It started over a game of bridge where Sandy Lewis and Chris Sloan came up with the idea that a golf tournament would be a good way to raise funds for trouble teens at Camelback Vista Treatment Center. Chris and Sandy, the president of the Boys’ Club Auxiliary (just boys at that time), called Lynda Coffelt to see if she would be able to help. After an initial “NO” response, Lynda changed her mind and decided to gather a committee together to make this charity event possible. The rest is history.

The current committee of hardworking women, many for countless years, are Joyce Seiferth, Diane Tooker, Elly Johnson, Gaylene Ori, Lynda Coffelt, Evie Hill, Mary Ann Murphy, Charlotte Moses, Trudy Dawson-Hahn, Vicky Stevenson, Mary Eggstaff, Gisela Stewart, Lacy Sundlof, Barbara Arendt and a special thanks to Donna Cunning.

“The success of this tournament far exceeded our expectations and can be attributed to the well-organized committees who have given of their time and expertise over the years. We don’t want to mess with success so after a quarter century, it is time to play out the final chapter and close the book on the Ladybug Golf Classic…the 25th will be an event to remember,” declares Lynda.

Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the last history-making women’s charity event. Let’s make the 25th Anniversary a golf tournament to be remembered. For information on entries, contact Joyce Seiferth at 602.954.5686.
