Palm Valley Golf Club has two distinct 18-hole layouts, superb conditions, and complete practice and dining facilities make it a true gem of the West Valley and a must play destination for those visiting the Phoenix area. It's a supreme challenge for the low handicap golfer yet forgiving for someone who wants an enjoyable experience regardless of the score.

The Arthur Hills-designed Palms Course, a par-72 layout that covers 7,015 yards from the back tees, features one of the finest closing holes in the region -- the par 5 18th with a lake on the left side of the fairway that wraps around a three-tiered green. The par-62 Lakes Course, designed by Hale Irwin, offers a shorter, quicker round of golf although no less of a challenge. The Lakes Course winds through the desert with many of its greens guarded by water.

Palm Valley features a well-appointed golf shop, practice facility and the Fairway Grille, a full service bar and restaurant with several big-screen TVs plus a spacious patio offering spectacular views of the golf course and surrounding mountains. Palm Valley also is home of the Waterfront Pavilion, a popular venue for weddings, banquets and special events.

Less than 20 miles west of downtown Phoenix, Palm Valley Golf Club is located in the heart of the West Valley's top sports and entertainment venues –just minutes from University of Phoenix Stadium, Jobing.com Arena, Camelback Ranch (spring training home of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox), Goodyear Ballpark (spring training home of the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians), Peoria Ballpark (spring training home of the Texas Rangers) and Phoenix International Raceway.

It’s new and it is definitely improved! When Phil Mickelson invested in the Palm Valley Golf Club, the bar was raised considerably for west valley golf. Now Palm Valley offers 27 Holes of Championship Golf! Arthur Hills’ original design on the former Palm Course has always been a fun run. Now its two 9-hole layouts are referred to as the North and South Courses and the former Lakes Course has been converted by Phil Mickelson Design as a third Championship 9-hole layout, the West Course. Water in play on 7 of the 9 holes makes it a true desert oasis. The North, South and West Courses allow for three different 18-hole course options to be played, depending on the time of day. Five sets of tees level the fair playing field for all golfers yet the designers have posed some fun challenges along the way.

North Course, Hole #2, par 5, 515 yards from the tips – The “Take Me to the Church” tune might sing in your head as the beautiful large dome of the neighborhood chapel looms behind the green. This fairway gives you a chance to reach back and let it rip. An ample landing area may provide a sanctuary but beware of the hidden encroachment of the desert area as it creeps into the fairway from the right side. Little redemption will be found if your ball finds this entrapment. Target the middle or left of the fairway for best chance of par or birdie. The elevated green is protected by two bunkers on the left with a slope on the far right that will feed into a purgatory of desert wash.

South Course, Hole #6, par 4, 455 yards from the tips – You might want to visit the relief station at the tee box before tackling this monster, the number 2 handicap of the South Course. The drive is very important to get as much distance to the corner of the dogleg left and reduce your second shot yardage. If your drives are small, there is not much relief for getting to the green in two. The only other relief you might find is in the fact that the green is large with a subtle slope. There is plenty of landing area and a backstop to keep your approach in play for a par putt.

West Course, Hole #1, par 4, 445 yards from the tips – Beware the hidden lake! The first impression on the newly designed West Course is the amount of grassy area. It will seem like a picnic as a large landing area is framed by big mounding on the right side of the fairway that gently curves to the left. However, cutting the left corner would be disastrous. The first of many water features, the lake pops into view for the approach and borders the green’s entrance with a bunker for extra protection or challenge to this opening dogleg left hole.

West Course, Hole #9, par 5, 570 yards from the tips – This finishing hole makes a great bookend to the number one starter of the new nine. Another dogleg left with a green edged by water, the layout is somewhat recognizable from the former executive Lakes Course but wow, it has cleaned up nicely.

Managed by OB Sports, you can expect a friendly welcome and efficient service by Ole from Oahu or any of the attentive staff. The driving range and practice green are expansive beside clear water ponds that reflect the palms and mountains in the distance. Music over loudspeakers calm and inspire as you hone your skills in comfort and beauty. Instruction is offered, of course.

A favorite of Pebble Creek residents and visitors from everywhere, Palm Valley is close to the Coyotes arena and Cardinals Stadium as well as shops and eateries. Just 30 minutes west of downtown Phoenix, it is one of the best golf values in the Valley of the Sun. Frequent players can save even more with the Palm Card here and at other OB Sports spots. Memberships are also available.

Libations and good food are on the menu at the Fairways Grille. Hot dogs or apple cider salad and more are ready at the turns. Ample seating inside with sports screens or outside for the patio view enables gatherings for groups and tournaments. Wedding planners favor Palm Valley and most weekends are set up for those special “I do” occasions. If you haven’t been lately, you should do it – check out the New Palm Valley Golf Club.
