Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club bucks industry trend

New membership plan results in 35 members in the first two months of 2010

Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club is overcoming the national trend of declining golf membership sales. From January through the first week of March, 2010, 10 new full golf memberships have been sold and 25 trial members have converted to full golf memberships.

In late 2009, OB Sports introduced a new membership plan and new programs; including offering memberships at market price ($15,000), unveiling a new member-referral program and adding a new amnesty program. In addition, Superstition Mountain unveiled limited “Club Guest” or daily-fee play opportunities to the 11-year-old private club, further introducing the club to a larger audience of golfers.

The recently adopted membership plan allows for limited daily fee club guest tee times on one golf course while the second course will remain exclusive for current and new members. For those looking to experience Superstition Mountain as a daily-fee club guest, starting times are available and current rates range from $120 to $180, ($90 to $110 for Arizona residents). In the current economic climate, the creation of more accessible forms of membership have quickly become an industry-wide trend as clubs look for additional member prospects and new round generation via daily-fee play.

Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club features two Nicklaus Design golf courses, The Prospector and Lost Gold. The Prospector Golf Course, which opened in 1998, combined the creative skills of Jack Nicklaus and his son Gary and was recently honored as one of the Top 100 Residential Courses in the Country by Golfweek for 2009.

In 1999, Jack Nicklaus teamed with son Jack Jr. to design The Lost Gold course at Superstition Mountain. This year, the Lost Gold Course was ranked as one of the “Top 10 Private courses in Arizona” by Desert Golf.
